Milestones

Camtek GmbH in Weinstadt near Stuttgart was established in 1993 as distributor of the CAD/CAM system PEPS. From the outset, Camtek did not only distribute the system, but also develop numerous modules, additional functions, special adaptations and intelligent postprocessors.

In 2009, Camtek GmbH acquired the rights to the source code of the CAD/CAM system PEPS in order to be able to develop it further independently. As a further milestone in the Camtek success story, the first complete in-house development was presented in the same year. With its CAD/CAM system OPTICAM, Camtek offers a fully integrated solution for the programming of wire EDM machines in the CAD systems SOLIDWORKS and SolidCut CAD.

In 2010, PEPS was expanded by the Feature Recognition for milling and wire EDM. The additional modules MILL-Expert and WIRE-Expert allow the fully automatic program creation based on 3D CAD data.

In 2011, the wire EDM module was expanded by the control of additional rotation axes, and the Machine Kinematics Simulation integrated. The programming of additional rotation axes for wire EDM machines was continuously expanded to freeform surfaces.

In 2014, OPTICAM was integrated into hyperCAD-S (since OPTICAM Version 2024 „hyperMILL CAD“).

In 2021, revision of MILL-Expert with completely new software architecture and development of Technic Transfer for an easy transfer of the NC code to different machine manufacturers.

OPTICAM is now also available in GibbsCAM and Siemens NX.
